Corn Meal Fungicide Solutions

Corn meal contains a micro organism known as Trichoderma harzianum from the Hypocreaceae family. This organism will kill off disease causing fungi just as effectively as copper sprays and petroleum based fungicides.

Dry corn meal can be worked directly into the soil and then watered in to activate the T. harzianum. The corn meal you get at the grocery store will work just fine, but horticultural corn meal can be found pretty readily at feed stores in this area and is much less expensive. Don't use horticultural corn meal for making corn bread, though!

Another way to apply corn meal to your plantings is by making a spray. Soak on cup of corn meal in 1 gallon of water for 24 hours. Fill a spray bottle or other kind of applicator bottle with the water or "juice" and use it to spray on and around susceptible plants in your landscape.

WARNING: DO NOT USE CORN GLUTEN!
